Jodhpur – A blue city on the edge of desert in Rajasthan. This blue city is one of my favorite cities of Rajasthan. I just came back from the fantastic Jodhpur trip, where in I got to explore most of the city, its beautiful attractions & its surrounding places. The people are very helpful there, food is out of the world, shopping places and attractions are vibrant. So, if you are planning a trip, put up at a heritage hotel in Jodhpur where you can experience a royal stay.
Below are the top 5 things to do in the beautiful city of Jodhpur that is based on this recent experience of mine:
- Blue View from the top of Mehrangarh Fort:
It is one of the largest forts of India from where you can see the awesome view of the entire Blue city of Jodhpur. There are number of attractive rooms, luxury apartments and balconies but my favourite room was the Phool Mahal. Once you have explored the fort complex, don’t forget the Jaswant Thada, a memorial made of white marble of King Jaswant Singh.
- Desert Safari Experience:
Ossiyan is the nearest desert to the blue city Jodhpur. Located 65 kms away, Ossiyan offers a fantastic desert safari experience. A lot of people like to go on a camel safari and stay overnight at one of the desert camps.
- Walk Around Sardar Bazaar at Ghanta Ghar:
It is the place where you can go shopping & buy all jodhpuri stuff like handicrafts, locally made embroidered clothe, local dresses, jodhpuri shoes, scarves, carpets and much more. Even if you are not into shopping, this place is good to soak in to the vibrant environment and the rich colors on display.
- Delicious snacks at Janta Sweet Home:
You can’t leave Jodhpur without tasting the food at Janta Sweet Home. Jodhpuri Mirchi vada (Breaded and fried green peppers stuffed with potatoes) and Pyaaz ki Kachori (crisp pastry with a spicy onion stuffing) are the most famous offerings in snacks. There is no dine-in facility here, but you will always find a huge crowd in front of this shop for these snacks.
- Rajasthani Cuisine at WelcomHeritage Bal Samand Lake Palace Restaurant:
WelcomHeritage Bal Samand Lake Palace is a ideal place to stay in Jodhpur if you want to escape the madness of Jodhpur’s city. Even if you aren’t staying at the hotel, you can go to Lake View Restaurant to get a taste of the Rajasthani cuisine. I stayed at WelcomHeritage Hotel in Jodhpur for 2 nights and sampled a lot of food while I was there.
